Florian from Buller Ski Lifts shares a little more about what’s important to the organisation and how they support Victorians to get active in the outdoors. Read an excerpt from Florian below:

Mt Buller is best known as a winter destination, but my role is largely focused on helping grow the mountain as a year-round place for adventure, learning and group experiences. Across Buller Ski Lifts and our RockWire brand, I work on product development and partnerships that bring more schools, youth groups and outdoor participants into the alpine environment in meaningful ways. Being an Outdoors Victoria Affiliate is about staying connected to that wider sector and ensuring Mt Buller remains part of the conversation around participation, outdoor learning and alpine experiences.

What’s changed in recent years is that the Green Season is no longer just the gap between winters. We are putting real work into experiences that give schools and groups reasons to come to the mountain outside the snow season. That includes RockWire, as well as broader camp-style programs that can be tailored to each group’s needs and may combine accommodation, catering, environmental talks, hiking, MTB and other ancillary activities.

That same thinking carries into winter as well. Mt Stirling plays an important role here, offering an immersive alpine setting that suits outdoor education, cross-country skiing and camp-based group experiences. Alongside that, Mt Buller provides a more structured winter option, with established school and group programs that can include accommodation, rental, lift passes, lessons and transport planning.

For us, staying connected to the outdoor education sector matters because places like Mt Buller should not just be viewed through a tourism lens. They are also environments where young people can build confidence, resilience and a stronger connection to the outdoors. There is real opportunity to work more closely with schools, educators and organisations on programs that are practical, engaging and tailored to the alpine setting across all seasons.
