In 2024, Brett and Phil led the formation of an Outdoor Activity Community of Practice (CoP) within the Great South West Coast Department of Education Network. Originally designed to share knowledge and experiences in navigating policies and guidelines during challenging times, the CoP has quickly expanded in both scope and influence. It now holds the potential to serve as a model for other networks, helping to sustain and increase participation in outdoor activities for staff and students across the country.
About the Presenters
With a strong foundation in Outdoor Education, Brett is a founding member of the School for Student Leadership’s Gnurad-Gundidj Campus team. Prior to this role, he spent several years leading a large school-based outdoor education program. Brett is also a member of Outdoor Victoria’s Schools Advisory Group.
Phil is an experienced and passionate Outdoor Education teacher who strives to build community partnerships and links to nature to support student learning and wellbeing. Phil worked at Gnurad Gundidj, The School for Student Leadership for over a decade and currently heads up Outdoor Education at Warrnambool College. Phil is also a member of Outdoor Victoria’s Schools Advisory Group
