A Deep Time Walk is a multidisciplinary experience, using a 4.6km classroom to vividly illustrate our planet’s remarkable transformation from a ball of lava to the beautiful home we all share today. This presentation makes the case for including Deep Time Walks as a core element of environmental education.
The Deep Time Story sheds light on our current environmental crises by elucidating concepts such as fossil fuels, greenhouse gases, ozone depletion and mass extinctions. It also demonstrates the variable rhythms of natural processes, and the necessity to adopt deep time thinking to understand how we have got here and what comes next.
This immersive technique, in which distance becomes a tangible tool for understanding the unfathomable scale of time enables participants to connect emotionally and physically in a manner not possible in an indoor setting. Through storytelling and mindful walking, participants engage their body, mind, and soul in understanding the grand narrative of life on Earth.
About the Presenter

I have a background in health psychology, and believe that a strong emotional connection with the natural world is good for personal well-being, while also promoting climate awareness and action.
For the past five years I’ve led Deep Time Walks, guiding approximately 200 individuals through the captivating narrative of our planet’s history. As the only Australian representative in the International Deep Time Walk facilitator network, I’m eager to expand our reach by training additional guides and offering this fascinating experience to more people throughout the country.
