OHA LGBTIQASB+ Rainbow Group
Outdoor related fields, including Outdoor Education, Outdoor Health and Outdoor Therapy have for too long been negotiated by heteropatriarchal and colonialist discourses. Join us in storytelling and learning ways in which these intersections of outdoor and LGBTIQASB+ connections can be made to inform the field and ALL our practice.
Nature reminds us that ecosystems thrive and are strong when diversity is allowed to flourish. Nature reminds us that ecosystems thrive and are strong when diversity is allowed to flourish.
Since 2023 Outdoor Health Australia have been facilitating monthly LGBTIQASB+ / allies Outdoor Therapy meetup groups where intersections that emerge for LGBTIQASB+ and outdoor therapy practitioners, researchers, educators, participants in bush adventure therapy programs are discussed and community experienced.
This experiential workshop will be facilitated by some of these group members and invites LGBTIQASB+ allies and outdoor folks into a space that prioritises and celebrates LGBTIQASB+ voices in the field(s).
This workshop will be both informal and informative and holds intentions to build momentum to continue to build the safety and inclusivity in Outdoors locally, nationally and internationally.
All people of diverse genders, bodies and sexualities are fully welcome.
About the Presenter

Our group is made up of LGBTQIASB+ outdoor practitioners/ participants/ educators and allies. We energise inclusive, meaningful engagement regarding diversity, equity and LGBTQIASB+ representation in the Outdoor’s. We acknowledge the impact of intersectional oppression, heteronormativity and barriers and challenges to physical, mental, social, emotional safety and well-being, for LGBTQIASB+ people, especially those marginalised by racism and ableism. We acknowledge the resilience of our communities, past and present. We are inspired by the diversity and belonging that nature models, and know the benefits and opportunities that nature, therapy, community, connection, and pride have for healing and belonging.
