In this workshop, participants will explore ways of embracing, building and strengthening authentic First Nations cultural connections in education contexts. Specific examples will be shared from Numinbah Valley Environmental Education Centre’s ReconciliACTION journey, including strategies for creating mutually beneficial relationships with First Nations cultural mentors; caring for Country & community; and developing a ‘living’ Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP); linked to learning frameworks & curriculum, staff culture and whole school operations.
Interactive activities will highlight First Nations ways of learning; featuring storytelling, physical games, engaging with bush technologies, artistic expression & reflective tools. Participants will share their own lived experiences in developing First Nations connections and work collaboratively to create ideas, strategies and actions in the key areas of respect, relationships & reciprocity, to apply in their own learning contexts. Opportunities for mentorship, staying connected and RAP support, will be offered.
This short film showcases our RAP working group, learning programs and community engagement in action. https://youtu.be/6PvTAN1dA4U
