Daniel Burton
This workshop delves into the transformative potential of adventure playgrounds in fostering resilience, mental well-being, and creativity among students. Based on the pioneering project at with a Year 7 cohort at a Perth high school where students have been actively involved in the development of an adventure playground, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore the profound impact of such initiatives.
Adventure playgrounds, rooted in the principles of junk playgrounds, loose parts play, and risky play, provide children with a dynamic environment where they can engage in unstructured, imaginative play. At Guildford Grammar School, this initiative goes beyond mere recreation; it serves as a powerful tool for mental health support, carpentry skill development, and nurturing a sense of adventure in young learners.
Through a series of captivating stories and real-life examples, participants will gain insights into the myriad benefits of adventure playgrounds. From fostering resilience and problem-solving skills to enhancing creativity and social interaction, this workshop will highlight how such programs can enrich the educational experience and promote holistic development.
