Wildflower Restoration at Iramoo Grassland
Pre-Conference – Wednesday 22nd July
9:00 am – 12:00 pm | Take a tour of Iramoo Wildflower Grassland Reserve – home of the Striped Legless Lizard in the west of Melbourne. Learn about how the Friends of Iramoo and The GREEN Lab have been working with community to restore this very special grassland. Add your own touch to the restoration by joining the team for a morning of wildflower planting. The session will conclude with a Grassland Games activity.

Critical Allyship: Towards Cultural Safety

Developed within Moondani Balluk Indigenous Unit, the Critical Allyship training program aims to build skills and knowledge in professionals that work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities regarding ethical engagement and collaboration. There remain significant challenges in this area, leading to culturally unsafe workplaces and lack of accountability to community. In a range of professional settings, being equipped with allyship, decolonial, and critical thinking skills can support the respectful and safe inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues and community.
This 3-hour workshop introduces participants to critical allyship, with a focus on workplace practices and approaches to partnerships with First Nations peoples, communities and organisations. Within the workshop, attendees will begin by engaging in critical reflection of their own work and identities, develop their understanding of collaboration in the context of settler colonial Australia, and through this, develop skills and knowledge around approaches to engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Attendees will participate in activities designed to stimulate thoughtful reflection and consider different ways of working and leave with a selection of key resources and next steps to continue their learning.

Benefit Risk Principles, Planning, & Practice Workshop
Free Pre-Conference Session – Wednesday 22nd July
10:00 am – 3:30 pm | Join Dave Marsden and Murray Tucker for a full-day, Benefit Risk Principals, Planning, & Practice workshop exploring how thoughtful risk supports learning, wellbeing, and positive outcomes in outdoor educational settings. This session aims to explore the understanding of risk-benefit approaches and provide practical insights to support confident decision-making in principals, planning, and practice. Supported by Outdoors Victoria and Sport and Recreation Victoria.
The workshop will be delivered live at Victoria University, Footscray campus, on the 22nd July, 10-3:30 pm, with a livestream option available for those unable to attend in person.
