This presentation will outline the latest research and theory that supports how outdoor education, when delivered within a non-formal education framework, can be used to develop social and emotional capabilities within young people that contribute to their ability to manage their own wellbeing. Drawing on Awards Victoria’s extensive experience of implementing non- formal education programs across a range of school types, Stephen will outline best practice for delivering Outdoor Ed for SEL (Social-emotional learning).
About the Presenters
Stephen Mason is the CEO of Awards Victoria (AV). AV have over 30 years’ experience offering non-formal education programs, such as The Duke of Ed, to schools in Victoria. Stephen is a specialist in the co-operative, social enterprise, not-for-profit and education sector, and works exclusively for with purpose-first organisations to assist them in expanding their impact.
